Participants outside IT Works for a hi-tech career opportunities conference in Haifa, Israel

The Israel Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford has awarded a $10,000 grant to IT Works’ Youth Empowerment Program, a program designed to provide at-risk youth in poorer Israeli communities with an experience that will start them on the path to career opportunities in the growing technological sector. Through the program, participants receive training by certified Cisco Systems instructors, and take part in empowerment workshops and extra tutoring that will help prepare them to find gainful employment and assume leadership roles in their communities.
The Israel Fund is a collective giving group at the Jewish Community Foundation that brings people who care about Israel together to help support projects in Israel that benefit children and other vulnerable populations. With a one-time gift of $10,000, payable over 2 years, members of the Israel Fund participate in selecting projects to receive funding. Since its inception in 2008, the Israel Fund has arranged grants for disabled Israeli youth to receive military preparation services and children who have lost family members due to terrorism to participate in a Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.
