Former CT Sen. Gayle Slossberg to become CEO of Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven

After a national search, Gayle Slossberg, former Connecticut State Senator, has been named CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven.

“We are thrilled to find such a wonderful talent in our community,” said Steve Fleischman, past president of the Federation and head of the Jewish Federation CEO search committee.

Slossberg comes to the Federation after serving as Chief Compliance and Integrity Officer of Yale New Haven Health.

She served for 14 years as the State Senator for the 14th District of Connecticut, representing Milford, Orange, West Haven and Woodbridge.  In the Senate, Slossberg held a variety of leadership roles, including chairing the education committee which instituted Holocaust Education in the State of Connecticut. She was also instrumental in delivering security grants for the JCCs in Woodbridge and West Hartford.  Prior to her public service, Slossberg practiced law at the Manhattan law firm of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton.

A native of Massachusetts, Slossberg is an alumnus of Camp Yavneh, a graduate of the Hebrew Teacher’s College in Brookline, She and her husband David are members of Temple Beth Sholom in Hamden and are the parents of three adult children who attended Yeladim, the JCC, Ezra Academy and BBYO.

“Gayle’s passion for the Jewish community, her energy and leadership, and her ability to gain consensus, will serve to make our well-run and strong organization even better positioned for growth and to navigate the many challenges we face,” said Gerry Barker, president of the Jewish Federation.

Slossberg will assume her duties as Federation CEO later in the year; until then, Amy Holtz will continue in her role as interim CEO.

“We are grateful for Amy’s extraordinary service and the amazing job she has done while we have engaged in this process.  We have the deepest appreciation for our professional staff for their deep commitment and know we will continue to go from strength to strength,” Barker said.

“As the Chief Development Officer, I am excited to work with Gayle on many initiatives, especially donor relations, and identifying and cultivating new donors,” said Holtz. “She will bring a fresh perspective and new energy as she leads our complex organization into the future. At the present time, we anticipate Gayle starting on September 1.”
