UConn Huskies sign on Israeli player

STORRS, Conn.—The University of Connecticut has announced that Israel’s Yarin Hasson will join UConn’s Men’s Basketball program this fall. The 6’ 9″, 205-pound small forward is the fifth Israeli native to become part of the UConn basketball program as a freshmen for the 2022-23 season and the first since Doron Sheffer in 1996.

Hasson, who will not turn 18 until October, is from Gan Yavne, Israel, where he played high school basketball for Gimnasia Realit in Rishon Le-Zion. He is also a member of the U18 Israeli National Team and has played for club team Maccabi rishon le Zion. He is considered one of the top rising young players in the country.

In addition to Hasson and Sheffer, the three other Israelis to become part of the UConn basket program were: Nadav Henefeld (1989-90), Gilad Katz (1990-92), and Uri Cohen-Mintz (1994-95).
