JCSO elects new leadership

Ursula Marx was elected president of the Jewish Children’s Service Organization  (JCSO) at the organization’s annual meeting on May 23 at the Hebrew High School of New England (HHNE) in West Hartford. Guest speaker at the event was HHNE principal Rabbi Daniel Loew, who also gave guests a tour of the school’s new building that opened this past January. In addition to Marx, officers elected at the meeting included: Debra Mehlman, first vice president; Leslie Silverman, second vice president; Fran Lowenstein, board secretary; Linda Asmar, recording secretary; Bonnie Wolfe corresponding secretary; Sharon Budkofsky, treasurer; Saul Pasternak, assistant treasurer; Faith Helene, financial secretary; Avra Novarr, and Mel Gerrol, auditor.
Annual scholarship awards were presented to the Bess and Paul Sigel Hebrew Academy, Solomon Schechter Day School, Hebrew High School of New England, Camp Sholom and Yahad.  In addition, JCSO helps families in crisis buy children’s clothing, and cover daycare and medical expenses; and supplies needy children with filled backpacks at the start of the school year and Chanukah gifts. The organization also provides college scholarships.
