Filmmaker Steven Pressman to speak in Hartford

HARTFORD – Filmmaker Steven Pressman will be guest speaker at the 2019 Evening of Hope hosted by Voices of Hope on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 6 p.m. at the G. Fox Ballroom, 960 Main Street in Hartford. 

Pressman is the writer, director and producer of the Emmy-nominated documentary film 50 Children: The Rescue Mission of Mr. and Mrs. Kraus, which tells the story of Gilbert and Eleanor Kraus, his wife’s maternal grandparents, and their unprecedented trip from Philadelphia into Nazi Germany to save Jewish children during the Holocaust. During his visit to Hartford, Pressman will also deliver to area students his message about the power of individuals to make a difference. 

In addition to Steven Pressman’s talk, the Evening of Hope will be highlighted by the presentation of the 2019 Simon Konover Recognition for Excellence in Holocaust Teaching award to Amy Miller of Farmington High School and Colleen Simon of Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford. 

In addition, Adele Jacobs, an attorney from Bridgeport will receive the Voices of Hope L’Dor V’Dor award, which honors the children of Holocaust survivors. Jacobs is the daughter of Fred Jacobs z”l and Regina Jacobs z”l, who survived the Auschwitz and Bergen Belsen concentration camps. Adele Jacobs has long been active in Voices of Hope, where she serves as vice president. 

Voices of Hope is an organization created by descendants of Holocaust survivors who are committed to promoting a culture of courage to stand up against hatred through Holocaust and genocide education and remembrance.
