Rabbi Orkand’s defense of Rabbi Richard Jacobs as President of the Union for Reform Judaism rings hollow (Letters, May 13). He realized the concerns of many Reform Jews the moment he bundled participation in J Street and the New Israel Fund with Tony Kushner’s views on Israel. Is nothing beyond the pale for Rabbi Orkand? Is all discourse about Israel legitimate? I expectantly await Rabbi Orkand’s defense of Norman Finkelstein as constructive criticism.
Rabbi Jacobs should resign his leadership positions in J Street and the New Israel Fund prior to his inevitable installation as president of the Union for Reform Judaism.
