Stamford’s budding  Torah scholars!

“Our kids were amazing!” commented Jackie Herman, head of school of Bi-Cultural Hebrew Academy (BCHA), who accompanied the school’s Torah Bowl team to the Torah Bowl competition recently held in Rockland County, New York.

The Torah Bowl league challenges students to learn the text of the Torah utilizing the commentaries of Rashi and Oneklos, some of the most important commentaries from the times of the Rishonim (the Medieval period). Teams of students from school all across the tri-state area regularly compete at both the high school and junior high levels. Students put their knowledge to the test, as they attempt to “buzz in” quickly – and accurately – with their answers to questions culled from approximately three parshas that vary from competition to competition. The intense study, the finely honed skills and the heightened motivation of team members make for a highly competitive league that excites and encourages students and fosters within them a love and passion for the Torah.

“I am extremely proud to have the opportunity to help our students learn Torah to the best of their abilities and take part in this tremendous league!” said BCHA teacher Rabbi Jeremy Perlow, who coached the team.

“Kol hakavod to the BCHA Torah Bowl team!” said Herman. “I’m proud of them all. And thanks to Rabbi Perlow for his outstanding leadership.”
