Ken’s Closet opens at New Haven Jewish Family Service

Jewish Family Service of Greater New Haven (JFSGNH) has launched a new program intended to supply interview-ready clothing to clients who need help navigating the challenges of the job market – with employment as their goal.

Through Ken’s Closet, business clothes – including suits, blouses, slacks, skirts, blazers, dresses (cleaned and on hangers), dress shoes and accessories – will be collected, sorted and inventoried by volunteers. Donation racks are scheduled to be set up at participating area synagogues, over the High Holidays. In addition, donations will be accepted by appointment at the JFSGNH office located at 1440 Whalley Ave. in New Haven. Prospective clients will be screened through the JFSGNH Social Work Outreach Program (SOS).

Ken’s Closet is named in memory of the late Ken Sperling, who was a strong supporter of JFS and had understood how looking presentable positively affects self-esteem.

For more information or to schedule an appointment to drop off a donation, contact: kenscloset@jfsnh.org, or call Mara Ginsberg at (203) 389-5599 X119.
