Pia Rosenberg Toro named president of Hartford’s JFS

WEST HARTFORD – Pia Rosenberg Toro of Simsbury has been named president of the Board of Directors of Family Services in West Hartford (JFS), it was announced by JFS Chief Executive Officer Anne Danaher. Rosenberg Toro succeeds outgoing president Michael Cohen who held the position since 2016.

“I am honored to lead this vital organization,” said Rosenberg Toro. “I am committed to helping all of the families in Greater Hartford who are in need.  I hope to continue to educate and engage members of our community to learn about the critical programs and services JFS provides.”

Describing herself as a community leader, Rosenberg Toro credits her parents, Anja and Gene Rosenberg, for instilling in her the values of philanthropy and for showing her what it means to be devoted to enhancing throught volunteerism and fundraising the quality of life for people in need. The family’s philanthropy includes the creation nof the Anja Rosenberg Kosher Food Pantry, named in honor of her mother, which distributes over 90,000 pounds of food, toiletries and cleaning supplies each year to residents of the Greater Hartford area who are in need.

Rosenberg Toro is a member of the Wallenberg Society and a Lion of Judah of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and a member of the Pillars Society of the Mandell JCC. She also serves as a Hartford Hospital corporator and is a member of the Board of Trustees of Renbrook School in West Hartford. She previously served as a board member and president of the Auxiliary of Hebrew Health Care, and as a board member of the National Conference for Community and Justice.

Rosenberg Toro earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Central Connecticut State University and a masters in early childhood education from the University of Saint Joseph.

Danaher also took the opportunity to express appreciation to Michael Cohen for his service.

“I want to thank past President Michael Cohen for his leadership and commitment to JFS,” said Danaher. “Michael believes in the Jewish concept of tikkun olam, repair of the world. He led us with fairness and consistency and truly helped us to embrace possibility.”
