Dr. Samuel Walter Askinas, 92, of Boynton Beach, Fla., formerly of Hartford and Avon, died April 2. He was the husband of Mae Herman Askins. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Frances Roslyn Cooper. He was the son of Abraham and Jennie (Smith). He served as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force and received the Legion of Merit, the highest noncombat award bestowed by the Air Force. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his stepsons, Barry Herman of Philadelphia, Penn., Richard Herman of North Easton, Mass., and Jonathan Herman of Decatur, Ga.; his grandchildren Anna Herman, Noah Herman, Molly Herman-Gallow, and Carly Herman-Gallow; and his cousins.
