HARTFORD – New trustees have been elected to the board of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford. David Miller, Investment Committee chair presented the nominations for the Board’s vote at the September meeting.

Elected to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees were Walter L. Harrison and Julie R. Spivak.

Walter Harrison served as president of the University of Hartford from 1998 through June 2017. He is a recipient of the Anti-Defamation League 2014 Torch of Liberty Award and the 2015 NCAA President Gerald R. Ford Award. He currently serves on the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics. An active member of the Greater Hartford community, he serves as a trustee of St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Hartford Stage and World Business Capital; and is board member of Suffield Academy and Fountain Valley School of Colorado.

Julie R. Spivak is owner of Equity Management Corporation. A philanthropist and community advocate, she is actively involved in Greater Hartford’s Jewish community, serving as a community trustee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and is a member of Beth El Temple in West Hartford.

Elected as the Foundation’s life trustees were Thomas M. Divine and Blanche S. Goldenberg.

Tom Divine is of counsel to the law firm of Rogin Nassau LLC in its Trusts and Estates Department. He is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and of its Tax and Estates and Probate Sections. He has served as a trustee of the Hebrew Home and Hospital, the Mandell Jewish Community Center and Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford, where he is a past president. He is a founder and former faculty member of Beit Midrash of Greater Hartford and has served on the professional advisory panel of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. He previously served as chair of the Jewish Community Foundation.

A lifelong resident of Greater Hartford, Blanche Goldenberg spent her professional career in a family-owned construction business that was ultimately sold to the largest producer of asphalt in the country. She serves as a trustee emeritus and presidential councilor of Cornell University, from which she holds a BA in Government, and as a director of New York’s Teagle Foundation. She has served as chairman for the boards of the Jewish Community Foundation, the Hartford Foundation for Pubic Giving, and the Loomis Chaffee School, and is a past president of The Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford. She has also served on the boards of the Bushnell Performing Arts Center, Riverfront Recapture, Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, Hartford Stage and Hebrew Home and Hospital.

The Jewish Community Foundation’s Executive Officers for the 2017-2018 are Leigh Newman, chair; Theodore Kaplan, vice-chair; Merrill Mandell, vice-chair; Randall Weinstock, treasurer; and Lee Pollock, secretary.
