The Rabbinical Assembly of Connecticut has announced that it will run a program of introduction to Judaism beginning Thursday, Nov. 2.

The 21-session Institute for Basic Judaism will feature as instructors several local Conservative rabbis, including David Small, James Rosen, Debra Cantor, Randall Konigsburg and Richard Plavin.

The Rabbinical Assembly of CT presents this program in partnership with the University of Judaism in Los Angeles using a curriculum designed by the Miller Introduction to Judaism program.

According to Rabbi Plavin, rabbi emeritus of Beth Sholom B’nai Israel in Manchester and the program’s administrator, the adult-learning program will provide a journey into Jewish spirituality, thought, ritual and culture. In addition, it will cover the scope of Jewish history, the meaning of Jewish peoplehood, Jewish diversity and the importance of Israel to the Jewish people.

The program, stresses Plavin, is geared for all those seeking to learn about Judaism, including: Jews who did not have a Jewish education in their youth; prospective Jews-by-Choice seeking Jewish education to meet the academic requirements of a conversion to Judaism; and non-Jews who are part of interfaith families or who are simply curious about Judaism.

Classes will be held at The Emanuel Synagogue in West Hartford on Thursday evenings, 7:35 – 9:20 p.m.
