BLOOMFIELD – State Representative David Baram has been elected Democratic nominee for probate judge the for the Tobacco Valley Probate Court, District 3, encompassing Bloomfield, Windsor Locks, East Granby and Suffield. Baram was elected unanimously at the Democratic Convention held at the Bloomfield Town Hall on Tuesday, July 18. The special election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7.

In placing Baram’s name in nomination, Bloomfield Democratic Town Committee Chairman Don Harris cited Baram’s outstanding reputation as an attorney for 39 years and his rating as “superb” by AVVO, an online legal services marketplace that provides lawyer referrals and access to a database of legal information.

According to Harris, Baram, who is managing member of the law firm of Baram, Tapper & Gans LLC, has practiced probate and estate planning, family law, real estate, and general litigation, giving him the experience to manage the court and its staff. He also pointed to David’s achievements as state representative and as chair of the General Law Committee and a member of the Judiciary Committee.

The Nomination was seconded by Neal Cunningham, DTC Chair for Windsor Locks, Mike Malloy, DTC Chair for East Granby, and Tom Frenaye, DTC Chair for Suffield. All three emphasized Attorney Baram’s compassion, good judgment, judicial temperament, and knowledge of the law.

In accepting the nomination, Baram said he was humbled by the unanimous support of all four towns and promised to follow in the footsteps of Steven Zelman, who has served as probate judge for 26 years, and to work diligently and with commitment to meet the expectations of the delegates supporting him. If elected, he pledged to remain engaged in each of the communities, to help people understand the role of the probate court and how to navigate the process should the need arise.
