A day of learning and celebration in honor of Elie Wiesel will be at Boston University on Sunday, Sept. 17. The free day-long event will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will feature panel discussions led by scholars, religious leaders, writers and activists, as well as tributes and celebrations with music, reflections and art.

Among the educators, writers, scholars, activists, and former students of Professor Wiesel are: Rabbi Nehemia Polen, professor of Jewish thought, Hebrew College; Sharon Portnoff, Elie Wiesel professor of Judaic Studies, Connecticut College; Rev. Cornell William Brooks, former president of the NAACP; and Michael Berenbaum, professor of Jewish studies and director, Sigi Ziering Institute, American Jewish University.

A musical tribute will feature, among others, Cantor Deborah Katchko Gray of Congregation Shir Shalom in Ridgefield, the HaZamir Chamber Choir

 and the Inner Strength Gospel Choir.

A family remembrance will be offered by Elie Weisel’s son, Elisha Wiesel.
