Mickey Weinstein Fund will benefit Mandell JCC preschoolers

WEST HARTFORD – The Mandell JCC has announced the establishment of the Mickey Weinstein Fund at the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford. The fund, established as a bequest by the late Mickey Weinstein of West Hartford, will be used to provide financial aid to families attending the Mandell JCC’s Beatrice Fox Auerbach Early Childhood Center.

Weinstein served as president of the Mandell JCC Board of Directors from 2001-2003. Prior to that she served on several JCC committees and as chair of its Jewish Book Festival.

“Mickey was very much tied into the JCC and her family instilled that in her,” said her husband, Michael Weinstein, noting that the couple “loved that the JCC appealed to all generations, faiths, cultures – and that it not only served the Jewish community but the greater community as a whole.”

“Mickey loved the JCC and was committed to making it a gathering place for all, while retaining Jewish heritage and culture,” said JCC Life Officer Jean Federman, a close friend of Weinstein’s. “She supported all aspects of the Center and was a dedicated president, tireless volunteer and major financial supporter. She devoted herself to making the JCC the best that it could be.”

“She loved the JCC and the many programs we provide – and had a special affinity for the pre-school where her granddaughters, Floe and Jillian, attended,” said JCC Executive Director David Jacobs.
