BEDFORD

Ellen S. Bedford, age 67 of Bridgeport, Conn., passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017. Daughter of the late Leon and Gertrude Rozene, Ellen is survived by her husband Brian Bedford; her sons, Scott Bedford and his wife Denise, Jamie Bedford and his partner Renata Martin; her sister Janette Rozene and brother-in-law Herbert Moultrie; her nephew Eric Moultrie; her aunt Bertha White; and her many cousins. Ellen was born in Bridgeport and graduated Central High School. Eager to start teaching, she went on to the University of Hartford and Hunter College Graduate School for her teaching degrees. For four decades, Ellen taught children in nursery and elementary school, and visually-impaired students for Derby public schools and BESB. She was a long-time member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom. She was a board member, a teacher and director of the nursery school, and served on many committees. She was the chairman of the Social Action Committee, which was her favorite because it helped those who are less fortunate. She was also a member of the Bridgeport Host Lions Club and the National Federation of the Blind. Ellen’s family would like to thank the compassionate teams at the Smilow Cancer Center on Park Avenue, Vitas Healthcare and Bridgeport Hospital for the care she received. Her family will be forever grateful for having Dr. Justin Persico at her side. Ellen was an endlessly creative, unconditionally loving, immensely generous woman, and a friend to all. She will live on forever in our souls, carrying us into the future with every piece of chocolate, every set of cheerful googly eyes, and every handmade creation hidden in all the nooks and crannies of our homes and our hearts. A service was held in Ellen’s honor on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Congregation Rodeph Sholom. Memorial contributions may be made to: The National Federation of the Blind c/o Southern CT NFB, 3250 Fairfield Avenue, #102, Bridgeport, Conn. 06605, or to the Connecticut Food Bank.
