The Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Mass. is now accepting applicants for two programs for college students and recent graduates.

The Steiner Summer Yiddish Program (June 5-July 22) is an immersive program in Yiddish language and culture, with beginner and intermediate tracks, open to college and graduate students ages 18-26. Participants can earn six college credits during the seven-week course while studying with leading scholars. Students also take a field trip to New York and take part in events at the Yiddish Book Center, including the annual Yidstock: The Festival of New Yiddish Music. Intermediate students also participate in paid internships at the Center.

Applications are due Feb. 8, 2016.

The 2016-2017 Yiddish Book Center Graduate Fellowship (Sept. 2016-Aug. 2017) offers recent graduates with backgrounds and interest in Yiddish and Jewish studies the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience working as full-time Center staff members.  Fellows may serve as teaching assistants for college-level Yiddish classes, work on the Center’s Wexler Oral History Project, develop educational materials, assist with translation and digital accessibility projects, or do bibliographic work with the Center’s extensive Yiddish book collection. They receive a $30,000 stipend as well as healthcare coverage.
