Bloomfield shul to welcome cantor for High Holidays

BLOOMFIELD — Haim Levy will be guest cantor at Beth Hillel Synagogue in Bloomfield for the High Holidays. A native of Israel, Levy received his Bachelors degree in history and political science from Bar Ilan University. Drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in 1962, he served in Israel’s Six-Day War, Yom Kippur War, and Lebanon War, before being released from the reserves at age 46. After 24 years as a teacher in Israel, he came to America as a member of the Cantor’s Assembly and served as a cantor in the U.S. for 20 years, establishing a community choir in New York. He then returned to Israel, where he teaches tropes to adults and children, and serves as a cantor in a local synagogue.
