Acclaimed Israeli-Palestinian author Sayed Kashua, author of three best-selling Hebrew novels and creator and writer of the hit Israeli television sitcom “Arab Labor,” will speak at Trinity College on Monday, March 9 at 4:30 p.m., in McCook Auditorium. The title of his talk is “The Arabs in Israel: The Inaudible Cry for Citizenship.” His appearance at Trinity is free and open to the general public, and is sponsored by Trinity’s Jewish Studies Program.

Kashua was born in Tira, Israel, and is internationally known for his books and humorous weekly columns in Hebrew for the Israeli daily Haaretz. The author of three Hebrew novels, his book Dancing Arabs, has been made into a feature film and premiered in 2014 at the Telluride Film Festival. The winner of many awards, including the prestigious Berstein Prize, Kashua was the focus of the documentary “Forever Scared.”

Kashua is best known in Israel for the award-winning sitcom “Arab Labor” (Avoda Aravit), which follows the ups and downs of a hapless Israeli-Arab journalist attempting to adjust to life in Jewish West Jerusalem. Critics have compared the show to “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” The Los Angeles Times described “Arab Labor” as “a valiant, consistently hilarious attempt to explore the tensions and contradictions of everyday life among the Israeli minority.”

Copies of Kashua’s novels will be available for purchase and the author will sign copies.
