West Hartford resident’s newest mystery novel published

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Poisoned Pen Press has announced the release of Downtown Strut by West Hartford resident Ed Ifkovic. Downtown Strut is also available in an eBook edition.

In his latest novel, which is also available in an eBook edition, Ifkovic takes readers to 1927 New York, where the Roaring Twenties and the Harlem Renaissance are in full swing, for a fantastic tale of jazz clubs, frenzy – and murder. Edna Ferber prepares for “the Ferber season on Broadway.” On December 27 Show Boat opens; the next night The Royal Family, her comedy of manners written with George Kaufman, debuts. But Edna misses both opening nights. She has something else on her mind: murder.

Edna has been mentoring some talented, young black writers and actors who are part of the burgeoning Harlem Renaissance. Intrigued by Roddy Parsons, a charismatic man most recently in the “Negro chorus” of Show Boat, she heads to Harlem to take him to lunch, only to discover that he’s been stabbed to death in his bed. Who murdered Roddy? Edna sets out to track down the murderer.

Ifkovic taught literature and creative writing at Connecticut’s Tunxis Community College for over three decades, and now devotes himself to writing fiction and spending time with his two grandchildren. In addition to literary novels, he is the author of four books in the critically acclaimed Edna Ferber series Lone Star (2009), Escape Artist (2011) and Make Believe (2013).
