WEST HARTFORD – Bernard L. Kavaler of West Hartford has been elected president of the Alumni Board of Directors of the University of Hartford Alumni Association. A 1979 graduate of the University of Hartford, Kavaler received his Masters degree from the school in 1988. He is founding principal of Express Strategies, a strategic communications and public policy consulting business, and compiles the news website Connecticut by the Numbers.

Kavaler has three decades of senior level executive experience in communications strategy, policy development and program management with state government organizations focusing on finance, law, business, civic involvement, and higher education, in addition to prior experience in journalism. Among his civic involvements, he is a board member of the Jewish Children’s Service Organization and vice-president of the board of the Charter Oak Cultural Center.
