Chai Mitzvah in the News!

Audrey Lichter

“To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, Jewish communal energy is wasted on the young.”

So begins a provocative and timely essay by Chai Mitzvah executive director Audrey Lichter, which was recently published on the blog, eJewishPhilanthropy.

In her essay, “The Coming Boom,” Lichter makes the case for why the Jewish community leadership needs to shift their priorities so that attention and resources are put into the engagement of that powerhouse demographic: Jewish Boomers, Empty-Nesters and other adult groups. Lichter attended Limmud NY and wrote this in response to a session on the Pew findings.

Taking issue with what she calls the community’s myopic focus on Next Gen, Lichter cites the new initiative B3/The Jewish Boomer Platform and calls upon synagogue groups to adopt Chai Mitzvah as a program for their member synagogues.
