Diane Greenfield wins national award

GreenfieldWEST HARTFORD – Diane Greenfield of West Hartford is one of ten winners nationwide of Pinnacle Golf’s second annual Going the Distance Awards presented by the Connecticut affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This national award honors golfers who are making a difference in the fight against breast cancer.

The ten honorees from all over the country were determined by a judging panel based on four key criteria: dedication to the fight against breast cancer; impact on others’ lives or the community; strong tie to breast cancer (e.g., survivor or family/friend of survivor); and connection to, and passion for, golf. Pinnacle will make a $10,000 donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure in each honoree’s name to help fund life-saving breast cancer research at the national level.

After losing two close friends to breast cancer in 1997, Greenfield vowed to do everything in her power to fight the disease. She founded the Tumble Brook Country Club Play for a Cure golf tournament and chose Komen Connecticut as the beneficiary.

Over the past 15 years, the Tumble Brook Play for a Cure event has raised more than $1.33 million for Komen Connecticut. The funds are invested in finding the causes and cures for breast cancer, while also helping underserved and uninsured women affected by breast cancer across Connecticut.

“Diane embodies the spirit and purpose behind ‘Going the Distance,’ and truly deserves to be recognized for her tremendous contributions to the local fight against breast cancer,” said Anne Morris, CEO of Komen Connecticut. “Diane is committed to helping uninsured women obtain the services they need and finding the cures for this disease. She is not only a driving force in the community, but an inspiration who truly deserves this honorable recognition.”
