Five student editors of Echo, the award-winning literary magazine published by the Jewish High School of Connecticut (JHSC) in Bridgeport visited Ezra Academy on Dec. 17 to lead a creative writing workshop for middle school students — and the high school students plan to return to Ezra this spring for a second workshop. Ultimately, they hope to extend their workshops to other middle schools throughout New Haven and to host a creative writing program on the JHSC campus this summer.
“I am very impressed by the writing program at JHSC. The students are self-motivated and professional. They take their work seriously and are excited to share what they’ve learned with the younger students,” says Echo advisor Dana Langer, who also serves as chair of the JHSC English Department.
The writing workshop represents the latest in a series of partnerships between Ezra and JHSC, who will soon share a home at the New Haven Jewish Community Center in Woodbridge. JHSC recently hosted Ezra during a power outage, and, last year, the two schools joined forces for a Yom Hashoah community service project at the Holocaust Memorial in New Haven.
