Diamond

Norma Helen Diamond, 99, died May 19. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was predeceased by her husband. Of 71 years, Irving (Shelly) Diamond, in 1953. The couple moved from Brooklyn and settled in Old Saybrook, CT in 1960, where they raised their family, and then went on to live their retirement years in Madison, CT. They were owners of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in New London/ Niantic from 1960-approx. As professional ballroom dancers, they showcased their dancing skills at many venues…performing, entertaining and teaching ballroom dance to hundreds over the years, including several classes of Coast Guard cadets. In addition to being a homemaker and dancer, Norma worked in the Old Saybrook school system as a para professional and found great pride in choreographing many of the Old Saybrook High School musicals. She had many talents, among them playing the piano, writing poetry and short stories and photography, which earned her accolades in several local contests. She is survived by her children, Jay Diamond and his wife Tina, Toby Poccia and her husband Tony, Lisa Streib and her husband Keith; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Emily, Samantha, Ben, Erika, Aaron, Stephen; and her great-grandson, Raiden.
