Greenwich, CT—“Voices from the Frontline,” a special opportunity for high school students to hang out with heroes from Israel. Meet two Oct. 7 heroes who recently served in Gaza. West Hartford, CT—“Zoning & Exclusion in West Hartford, Then & Now,” 6 pm. The origins of residential zoning in CT can be traced back to efforts by the West Hartford town government to block a Hartford Jewish grocer from building a store in a residential neighborhood. This program will explore the past and efforts today to address the economic segregation wrought by zoning over the past 100 years.

West Hartford, CT — 28th Annual Phyllis Hoffman Hartford Jewish Film Festival presents: “999: The Forgotten Girls,” at the Mandell JCC, 7 pm. 999 reveals the hidden story of 999 young, unmarried, Jewish women who were registered to work in a supposed shoe factory and instead were sent to Auschwitz. Among them was Rena Kornreich, whose family will be in attendance at the screening. Rena, number 1716, arrived at Auschwitz in March 1942. Three years and forty one days later, she was liberated in Neustadt Glewe. She and a few other survivors reveal the truth of this almost completely ignored piece of women’s history, the first official Jewish transport to Auschwitz.
