UJA-Federation of NY names new president, board chair

(JNS) Two veterans of the nonprofit world took over the reins of an organization, which impacts 4.5 million people and distributes about $180 million in grants annually.

Linda Mirels became president and Marc Rowan became chair of the board of the UJA-Federation of New York on July 1, the nonprofit announced on July 10.

The chair of a global investment firm, Mirels served previously as chair of the UJA board. Rowan is CEO of Apollo Global Management.

“In the face of rising antisemitism, we are uniquely positioned with our expertise and resources to respond,” Mirels stated. “At the same time, UJA will also pursue transformational opportunities that shape the Jewish future.”

Rowan praised UJA, which he stated “cares for people in need in the most personal of ways, at scale.”

“They have built a global platform with an unparalleled ability to swiftly support communities in times of crisis and have the unique ability to be a force multiplier in responding to issues ranging from poverty to mental health to supporting refugees,” he added.
