Melvin Howard, 88, of Miami Beach, Fla. and Westport, Conn., died January 18. Born in Boston, Mass., he was the son of John and Molly (Sagar) Horvitz and raised in Fall River, Mass. by John and stepmother Rose Horvitz. He served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Beverly Ruth (Kahan) Howard, and his second wife, Vivien Weissman Howard. He is survived by a daughter, Marjorie (Douglas) Evans; a son Brian (Sarah) Howard; seven grandchildren, Danielle, Samuel, and Stephanie Evans, Benjamin, Maxwell, Joshua, and David Howard; and by his brother Rabbi Herbert (Judith) Horvitz. He was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Topol.
