A Mitzvah in the Making

As part of the second annual Yale Day of Service, held on Sunday, May 6, members of the New Haven community partnered with Yale University alumni to help clean up the Hebrew Burial and Free Loan Association of New Haven cemetery. The group tidied up the East Haven cemetery, which included lifting sunken headstones. Pictured here: volunteers (l to r) Yarden Pawlak, Mati Edelkopf, and Doreen Pawlak (Yarden’s sister) work hard to right the fallen headstone of a child’s grave. The girls’ mom, Hadassah Pawlak, said that her daughters felt that helping another child was especially meaningful for them. The association provides free burial plots and interest free loans to needy Jews in Greater New Haven.
