SHENKMAN

Florence Shenkman, 93, formerly of West Hartford, passed away peacefully at Boca Raton Regional Hospital on May 26, 2017 after a brief illness. Born July 6, 1923 in Poland, the daughter of the late Morris Littman and Esther Corn Littman of Deerfield Beach, FL. Her brother, Samuel Littman, predeceased her. Beloved wife of George, doting mother of two sons, three grandsons and nine great-grandchildren. Florence immigrated to the United States in 1928, grew up in Paterson, New Jersey and graduated from East Side High School in 1940. Florence married George on November 2, 1941 and they recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. Florence and George resided for many years in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and West Hartford, Connecticut, and permanently moved to St. Andrews Country Club in Boca in 1991. Throughout her life, she was an interior decorator. Florence was an extremely devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was loving, caring and a genuinely sweet person. She was always happy, upbeat, polite, and humble. Florence throughout her long life always put her family ahead of herself. Florence is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Rosalind Shenkman of Greenwich, CT, and her son, Richard of Somers, CT. Three grandsons, Rabbi Andrew Shenkman of Edison, New Jersey, Gregory Shenkman of New York City and Justin Slatky of New York City. She truly loved her nine great-grandchildren: Isaac, Esther, Sarah, Pearl, Jacob, Wellesley and Grant Shenkman, and Alex and Abby Slatky. Florence enjoyed reading, traveling, and participating in Jewish organizations and causes. She served as president of Hadassah in West Hartford, Conn. Graveside services were held May 30.
