SSA K-1 teacher Judy Spitz, whose students created the constellation templates used to make a cardboard telescope, lends a helping hand as a third and fifth grader examined the templates through the telescope.

Turns out teachers aren’t the only ones with knowledge to impart! At Solomon Schechter Academy (SSA) in New London, Kids Teaching Kids is an innovative program that gives students who have studied a topic in depth the opportunity to share what they’ve learned with others – both their classmates and children in other grades. This year, Kids Teaching Kids focused on the topic “The Night Sky” – students in kindergarten and first grade learned about stars and constellations; third and fourth graders studied the solar system; and fifth graders researched the International Space Station.
