Hamden woman receives leadership award

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Hamden native Eliza Kanner, a student at the University of Connecticut, is the recipient of the Campus Leader of Tomorrow Award presented by the international Israel education organization StandWithUs. Kanner, a former StandWithUs Emerson Fellow, was presented with her award at the organization’s 2nd Annual Leaders of Tomorrow Gala, held Sunday, Nov. 13 at Gotham Hall in New York City.

As an Emerson Fellow, Kanner is active on campus where she has spearheaded numerous programs aimed at educating UConn students about Israel. A former Miss Connecticut runner-up, she has worked closely with Hillel at UConn as well as the group Huskies for Israel.

The Leaders of Tomorrow dinner also featured a keynote address by former Israeli Defense Minister and IDF Chief of Staff Moshe (Bogie) Yaalon, greetings from the Israeli government delivered by Israel’s Consul General in New York Dani Dayan, and a performance by comedian Elon Gold.
