The Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation-Emek Shalom (FVJC) in Simsbury invites all members of the community interested in embarking on a “Jewish journey” to join a unique adult study session that will meet monthly on Sundays, 5 – 6 p.m. beginning Oct. 23. The group, which will meet for seven sessions over the course of nine months, will be led by FVJC spiritual leader Rabbi Bekah, using a curriculum provided by Chai Mitzvah, an innovative Jewish-engagement program launched in 2009 by a group of Jewish leaders and philanthropists and conceived by philanthropist Scott Shay in his 2006 book, Getting Our Groove Back: How to Energize American Jewry. Today, Chai Mitzvah engages 1,500 participants in four countries. The FVJC group is part of a new Chai Mitzvah pilot initiative, — dubbed “Ignite Hartford” — that takes a community-wide approach to Chai Mitzvah, enlisting more than 25 groups who will start the program in fall 2016.
