Memoir, personal essay writing workshop in Sherman

SHERMAN – The JCC in Sherman will present a workshop for adults on writing memoirs and personal essays. The 5- session course will be held on Wednesdays, May 11 – June 8, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Using storytelling skills, the workshop will explore the various ways to turn personal stories into compelling reading, incorporating dialogue, description, setting and theme. Participants will also critique one another’s work in a supportive environment. Open to beginning writers as well as those who are already working on a piece, the workshop will be led by Priscilla Whitley, who studied at the University of Missouri School of Journalism and Fordham University, and has worked at Simon and Schuster Publishing. Her essays have appeared in numerous publications including Chicken Soup for the Soul and Scary Mommy. She placed first in the Westport Arts Center Memoir Contest and she is the facilitator of the Candlewood Writers Workshop in Danbury.
