More than 100 students at Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford (SSDS) jumped at the chance to help out their local community on Dec. 1, by joining “Giving Tuesday” — a global day of doing good that takes place annually on the day after Cyber Monday. During the course of the day, SSDS kindergartners delivered holiday cars to residents of Hoffman SummerWood Community; first and second graders created festive posters to be donated as decorations to the patients of Connecticut Children’s Medical Center; and third and fourth graders made 172 sandwiches for families staying at a local shelter – children living at at the shelter will also receive stuffed animals made by the third graders at Build-A-Bear; fifth and sixth graders made blankets for the cats to sleep on at the New Britain Animal Shelter; and seventh and eighth graders baked bread, then donated to Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen.
