Israeli killed in West Bank shooting attack

(JTA) – An Israeli man in his twenties was killed in a shooting attack in the West Bank, which left his friend wounded.

The incident happened Friday near an Israeli settlement close to Ramallah, Ynet reported.

The deceased, Danny Gonen, 25, from Lod near Tel Aviv, was traveling with a friend on Route 453 near Haparsa Junction, about a mile west of the West Bank settlement of Dolev. The two men were in the area to bathe in a nearby spring. The attack’s survivor sustained moderate injuries.

According to Ynet, the two men in their mid-20s were traveling in their car after visiting a spring near Dolev, when they were flagged down by a Palestinian man, seemingly asking them for help. They were shot at point-blank range.

Paramedics who reached the scene found Gonen unconscious from gunshot wounds to his body. He was helicoptered to a hospital in critical condition and died shortly after being evacuated. His friend was hit in his legs, sustaining moderate injuries, and was conscious.

The Israel Defense Forces and the Border Police dispatched units to the area to attempt to pursue the perpetrators.
