New Haven cemeteries vandalized

Two synagogue cemeteries in the Westville section of New Haven were vandalized by thieves late last week, who carried off a total of five metal mausoleum doors. The incidents, which took place in the Congregation B’nai Jacob and Congregation Mishkan Israel sections of the Jewell Street Jewish cemetery complex, did not involve graffiti or other antisemitic activity. Leadership of both synagogues are working with the New Haven Police Department to increase patrols in the cemeteries and are exploring enhanced security measures.
