Martin Silver, an American volunteer sailor who helped retrofit a United States Presidential yacht to help smuggle Holocaust survivors to Israel in 1948, will speak at a special Holocaust Memorial Day/Yom Hashoah program hosted by Temple Beth Israel of Danielson on Sunday, April 19, 1 – 3 p.m. Built in 1895 to accommodate 36 passengers, the yacht delivered 1400 Holocaust survivors to the shores of the newborn Jewish state.

Complimentary transportation from the Mandell JCC in West Hartford will be provided for the first 46 people who sign up for the program. Admission is $18 for adults, $10 for students. The program is free for Holocaust survivors.
