Bethany residents receive state citation

NEW HAVEN – State Senator Joseph J. Crisco, Jr. (D-Woodbridge) recently presented Rachel and Yuval Hamenachem of Bethany with a legislative citation recognizing their 30 years of service to the regional Jewish community as owners and operators of Westville Kosher Market at 95 Amity Road in New Haven.

“For the last 30 years, Rachel and Yuval have done an invaluable service for local and regional Jewish communities,” said Crisco in making the presentation. “As kosher foods have become harder to access in communities across Connecticut, Westville Kosher Market has continued to maintain a tradition of excellent service, and has become an anchor for the region. I hope that they will continue to flourish for many more years to come.”

Located in New Haven’s Upper Westville area, Westville Kosher Market was started by the Hamenachems in 1985 and serves as a kosher meat market and full service deli.

“The Hamenachem’s kosher foods and homemade Middle Eastern dishes have earned them a statewide following,” Crisco added. “In addition to those seeking the market’s kosher foods, others come to the market simply because Rachel and Yuval make outstanding Middle Eastern dishes like falafel and hummus.”
