The historic Congregation Beth Israel in downtown Wallingford recently completed two significant capital improvement projects.
The synagogue’s iconic stained glass frontispiece was repaired, resulting in more efficient energy usage and increased safety. A bare lot adjacent to the building has been cleared, leveled, seeded, and landscaped with perennials. The new outdoor space will be used throughout the year for community activities.
The renovations to the synagogue, which is more than 110 years old, were made possible by a $4,000 matching community grant from the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven and the Jewish Foundation of Greater New Haven, which required Beth Israel Synagogue to raise an equal amount in donations from members and supporters.
