As Thanksgiving drew near, children from the Jewish communities of Greenwich and Stamford worked together to create food baskets to make the holiday a happy one for people in need. Kids in grades K-2 got out their measuring spoons to create rainbow bean soup jars as part of the Sunday Funday program at JCC Greenwich. The jars were donated to the Kosher Food Pantry at Jewish Family Service in Stamford, and were subsequently organized into Thanksgiving food baskets by 3rd-6th graders from the Chai 5 Chessed Club of Chabad House Stamford.
“It’s a wonderful thing to be a part of helping our kids learn that, even though they are young, they can make an incredible difference in the lives of others,” said Leah Schechter, assistant director of JCC Greenwich.
Leah Shemtov, co-director of Chabad of Stamford, agreed. “Our Mitzvah Club collected food and then partnered with JFS to prepare the Thanksgiving bags. What a fun surprise to find that one of the items had been prepared by another kids group. We truly felt like a community coming together from all sides to do good for others.”
