West Hartford synagogue honors congregants

WEST HARTFORD – Seven congregants of Beth El Temple were honored by the Conservative West Hartford synagogue at a series of events held in October.

Howard Meyerowitz of Bloomfield and Bernie Selig of West Hartford received Beth El Temple Men’s Club Distinguished Service Awards at a reception held Thursday, Oct. 23. Meyerowitz often volunteers his culinary skills to cook Taste of Shabbat lunches and other meals in the Beth El kitchen for synagogue events. A past president of the shul’s Board of Trustees, Selig performed with the Beth El choir for 30 years. He also chaired the search committee that brought Rabbi James Rosen to Beth El and the committee that developed Beth El’s first strategic plan.

Leah Goldman and Miriam Katz, both seniors at Hall High School in West Hartford, were honored on Oct. 6 at Simchat Torah LIVE services for their work over the past four years as teachers’ aides in the synagogue’s religious school.

Jacob Kovel of Simsbury, Eleanore Reiner of West Hartford and Judy Rosenthal of Hartford were honored on Oct. 17 during Simchat Torah services. An active Temple member, Kovel has served as president of the Beth El Men’s Club for the past three years.
