Joseph A. Miller, “Poppy Joe,” 97, of Bloomfield, died Oct. 23. He was the widower of Dorothy (Kaplan) Miller. Born in Hartford, he was the son of Samuel and Lena Miller. He was a Technician Fifth Grade in the U.S. Army during World War II. He is survived by his children, Michael Miller and his wife Rebecca of West Hartford, Leslie Ellen Richardson and her husband Rudy of North Granby, and Tami Battaglio and Richard DePault of Canton; his grandchildren, Brian and Renee Miller, Scott and Emily Miller, Robert and Ally Miller, Matthew and Rebecca Brainerd, Jeffrey and Kimberly Brainerd, Johnhenri Richardson, Tomilyn and Steven Thomas, Kyle and Kimberly Richardson and Nicholas Battaglio, III; 10 great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law Melvin (Sonny) Kane and J¿rgen Helscher; and his sister-in-law Joyce Kaplan. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Pauline Goldstein and her husband Isadore, Charlotte Kargman and her husband Charles, and Judith Kaplan and her husband Nathan, and his daughter-in-law, Sandra.
