Legendary entertainer Sophie Tucker was a native of Hartford – so it seems only fitting that Hartford’s Jewish community would take a special interest in a film documenting the rags-to-riches story of her eventful life. The community will do just that on Thursday evening, March 12, 2015, when “The Outrageous Sophie Tucker” opens the 19th Annual Mandell JCC Jewish Film Festival at the Infinity Music Hall & Bistro in Hartford.
But wait! Hartford’s snowbirds won’t be left out in the heat. To give the film festival’s many Florida fans a chance to meet, mingle and reminisce with friends, including Tucker’s Hartford family, the Mandell JCC Hartford Jewish Film Festival, the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and the Jewish Historical Society of Greater Hartford are hosting a screening of the film in Delray Beach, Fla. on Monday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at The Movies of Delray, 7421 W. Atlantic Ave. The screening will be followed by a dessert reception at which movie-goers will have a chance to meet the filmmakers.
Admission to the film and reception is $20 per person. For tickets and/or more information, contact Sarah Mitchell at (860) 727-6131, smitchell@jewishhartford.org.
