Temple Mount violence injures two police officers, forces visiting rabbi to evacuate

(JNS.org) Two Israeli border police officers were injured and 24 arrests were made Sunday morning as Arab youths rioted violently at the Temple Mount, throwing fireworks and rocks at security forces, The Jerusalem Post reported.

The riots abruptly ended a tour of the Temple Mount by prominent American Orthodox rabbi Meir Soloveichik, head of New York City’s Sephardic Congregation Shearith Israel, the oldest Jewish congregation in the United States. Soloveichik evacuated the site within two minutes of ascending.

“Under the current circumstances, even to go to the Temple Mount for two minutes was a tremendous privilege,” said Soloveichik, who was accompanied on his visit by Temple Institute International Director Rabbi Chaim Richman.
