Abbas says ‘no way’ to Jewish state recognition

(JNS.org) Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has said there is “no way” he will recognize Israel as a Jewish state as part of a framework deal with Israel, the Palestinian official WAFA News Agency reported. Recognition of Israel as a Jewish state is one of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s key demands during the peace talks. According to WAFA, Abbas said he has withstood pressure by the U.S. before over U.N. recognition of a Palestinian state, and suggested that he could do it again.
