Jewish Senior Services wins new Toyota in national contest

FAIRFIELD – Jewish Senior Services in Fairfield is winner of a new Toyota Sienna Mobility van, following a nationwide contest of online voting in Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program on October 23.

“We are so thrilled and appreciative of the outpouring of support from both our local community and from communities nationwide. It is tremendous to have people recognize the importance of supporting our seniors in all situations,” said Andrew H. Banoff, president and CEO of Jewish Senior Services.

The new wheelchair accessible van will be used by the organization’s Center for Elder Abuse Prevention to help victims and to champion safer communities for older adults.

Jewish Senior Services’ Center for Elder Abuse Prevention opened in 2007 as the first of its kind in Connecticut and only the second in the nation. It remains one of the few shelters in the country specifically for seniors who have been abused or are at imminent risk of abuse.

Jewish Senior Services is one of 100 non-profits nationwide to be awarded a vehicle by Toyota as part of its 100 Cars for Good philanthropic program. The organization was one of only two non-profits in Connecticut selected as a finalist, after submitting an application explaining how a new vehicle would support its mission. Each day for 50 days, the contest features five non-profit organizations at www.100carsforgood.com. Online visitors receive two votes each day to select two organizations they believe are most deserving of a new Toyota vehicle.
