(JNS.org) While Gaza faces a power shortage due to an Egyptian crackdown on its smuggling tunnels, Hamas is looking to Israel for power. According to Oxfam, Gaza is facing a severe power crisis as a result of a shortage of fuel, with blackouts lasting from 12-16 hours a day as a result of the shutting of Gaza’s only power plant on Nov 1. Now, Hamas officials are looking to Israel to provide more electricity. In an interview with Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, Imad al-Daelis, economic advisor to Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, said that “[t]he agreement with the Israel Electric Company to supply additional power will help solve the crisis and will need to use the unused power plant due to lack of fuel needed to run it.” Currently, Israel provides Gaza with more than one-third of its power needs, despite Hamas’s stated mission to destroy Israel, Israel National News reported.
