Helping students in need succeed

It’s back to school shopping time for students all across the country.  Not every family, however, can afford to buy their children even the basic supplies to help them succeed in school.

Now, Women’s Philanthropy of United Jewish Federation in Stamford has launched “School Supplies Drive” – an effort to collect much needed school supplies that will the group will then distribute to local low income children through Jewish Family Service and Inspirica, one of the largest providers of services to the homeless in Connecticut and the largest in lower Fairfield County.

Donated items – new only, please – only are being accepted now through August 20 and may be dropped off in the drop boxes at the Federation offices, located in the Stamford JCC, 1035 Newfield Ave. Cash donations are also welcome.

The following is the Federation’s “wish list” of needed school supplies:

Backpacks; three-ring binders; folders; colored pencils; construction paper; dividers; rulers; spiral notebooks; pencil cases; watercolor sets; ruled pads; glue; glue sticks; markers; crayons; notebook paper; scissors; pens and pencils.
