Leon Weinberg, 88, of Boca Raton, Fla., formerly of Hamden, died May 24, 2013. He was the husband of Lillian (Miller) Weinberg. Born in Lodz, Poland, he was the son of the late Fayvel and Golda (Zeid) Wajnberg. He arrived in New Haven in 1949 when his aunt and uncle, looking for any surviving members of their family, tracked him down in Europe. He spent many days visiting schools to tell children of his life during the Holocaust, and recounted those experiences in his book For a Loaf of Bread, which may be downloaded for free at www.leonremembers.com. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Phillip Weinberg, Gayle Aizin and Sandy Weinberg; and grandchildren, Shondra, Justine and Briana. He was predeceased by his sisters Malka and Esther.
